Question   What is the appropriate attire for a sommelier?
     
Answer   Though the proper attire really depends upon the restaurant you're working in (i.e., your clothing should correspond to the restaurant's style, formal or casual), the key to dressing appropriately is to always look professional. This means keeping your shoes shined (an often forgotten but very important detail) and wearing freshly-pressed clothes. In most settings, a black or other darkly-colored suit is the way to go.

Heaven knows, you don't need a lot of wine knowledge to enjoy drinking the stuff. But a little goes a long way toward enhancing your buying power and confidence, and also your fun. Isn't it neat to listen to the blues with a music buff, or go to a museum with an art history aficionado? A few little facts or anecdotes can really open your eyes and your pleasure-sensors.

Wine can be the same, EXCEPT when someone makes you feel stupid for not knowing this grape or that fact-oid. That won't happen, here. So ask away! If I don't know the answer, I'll try to find out, and I'll post the FAQs so everyone can benefit.
